Don’t assume that monetary compensation is being attempted. However, in accordance with the law’s rules, I have ordered this restitution. It is completely up to you what you do with this money after that.

The court’s ruling has angered the victim’s parents. But they didn’t contest the judge’s ruling. Rather, they took their frustration out on the CBI, the investigating agency. According to the mother of the victim, the CBI has not demonstrated that this incidence is the “rarest of the rare.” For this reason, the judge spared Sanjay the harshest penalty possible.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated that, she had called for the defendant to be hanged after learning the outcome of the RG tax case. “We had called for the hanging,” she stated. I have no idea how… We would have ordered the hanging long ago if we had the case in our possession.

In the chargesheet, the investigating agency had only named Sanjay as the culprit; they arrested former RG Kar’s principal, Sandeep Ghosh, and former OC of Tala police station, Abhijit Mandal, but were unable to file a chargesheet against them. The victim’s parents had previously expressed their dissatisfaction with the CBI investigation, telling the court that they couldn’t believe Sanjay was the only person responsible for the incident and that there might have been other people involved.

After hearing the court’s ruling, convicted Sanjay Roy was observed sobbing. He muttered something repeatedly. “You are not sentenced to death, but to life imprisonment,” Sanjay’s attorney informed him. Sanjay replied, “My reputation has been defamed.”
